Why Whitelist PicDefense’s Crawler Bot #

PicDefense is a tool that helps website owners protect their images from copyright infringement. In order to crawl your website and perform image checks, our crawler bot needs to be able to access your pages. In some cases, website security measures like Cloudflare can block our bot from accessing your site. To ensure that our bot can access all of your pages, and to ensure we check ALL your images, it is necessary to whitelist it.

PicDefense’s Crawler Bot User Agent #

The method of whitelisting PicDefense’s crawler bot is by using the user agent. The user agent for PicDefense’s crawler bot is:

PicDefense.io Crawler Bot Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/109.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Whitelisting PicDefense’s Crawler Bot in Cloudflare #

Log into Cloudflare and under “Security” tab, go to “WAF” settings
Under “Firewall Rules” click on the “Create firewall rule” button
Create the firewall rules with these settings to whitelist PicDefense User Agent

Step-by-Step Guide to Whitelist PicDefense in Cloudflare #

  1. Log into your Cloudflare account and select the “Security” tab from the left menu.
  2. Select WAF to access the Web Application Firewall security settings
  3. Go to the “Firewall Rules” tab
  4. Click on “Create Firewall Rule
  5. Give the firewall rule a descriptive name such as “Whitelist PicDefense Crawler Bot UserAgent
  6. Set the “Field” to “User Agent
  7. Set “Operator” to “equals
  8. Set “Value” to:

    PicDefense.io Crawler Bot Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/109.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
  9. Set to “Allow
  10. Click on the “Deploy firewall rule” button
