Reading the Master Inventory Ledger
When you run a baseline scan, the PicDefense Inventory Engine crawls your entire site—including CDNs, subdomains, and nested CSS assets—to discover your “unknown unknowns”. The resulting data populates your Master Inventory Ledger. Understanding how to read this data is the first step in replacing operational spreadsheets with a true System of Record.
Understanding the Forensic Risk Score
It is critical to understand that the Forensic Risk Score is a filter, not a final verdict.
High Risk (85+)
These images strongly match known rights-managed collections or aggressive enforcement databases. You must secure and upload proof of license immediately.
Medium Risk (65–84)
Contains protected elements (logos, faces, landmarks) or matches mixed-use stock sites.
Low Risk (<65)
Likely safe, but compliance drift can still occur.
Key Data Columns in Your Ledger
Click the “Manage Columns” button to expose the underlying forensic data:
Image Hash
Every image is assigned a unique 64-bit cryptographic hash. If the exact same file appears on 50 different pages, our system deduplicates it so you only have to verify the license once.
Backlink Domain / Source Hints
Surfaces the likely original source of the image (e.g., matching a specific stock library), helping your team track down the original buyer.
Image Status
Tracks your operational workflow. You can transition images from Unreviewed to Replaced, Ignored, or Verified (Proof on File).
From One-Time Cleanup to Continuous Compliance
Most proactive teams use this ledger not just for a one-time cleanup, but to establish a baseline before turning on Continuous Site Monitoring to catch future compliance drift.
